PALM SPRINGS

A DESERT HOME'S LUXE METAMORPHOSIS: REIS DANIEL MAKES THE sIMPLE SPECTACULAR

This 1950s ranch in Palm Springs’s Old Las Palmas neighborhood was in estate condition when purchased. Typical of its era, it featured compartmentalized rooms and undersized windows that ignored the beauty of its surroundings.

In collaboration with a skilled team, Reis Daniel helped create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living. The home's original footprint was refined to establish long, clear sight lines that lead the eye through the space.

Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors erase the boundary between inside and out. A restrained materials palette of Douglas Fir, concrete, stone, and glass reflects the desert environment and brings calm to every room.

The result is a modern retreat rooted in warmth and clarity—where mid-century bones are elevated to a new standard of desert luxury.

In reimagining this desert ranch, we created a modern breezeway at the heart of the home, with gardens flanking both sides of the living space. Freed from traditional wall constraints, furnishings float purposefully in the center, creating an intimate seating area sheltered by the home's characteristic low-slung roof.

The thoughtfully composed arrangement offers both comfort and carefully framed views of the landscape beyond. Strategic placement of the artwork provides a visual anchor, and the overall configuration of furnishings creates a balanced rhythm for the eye as it travels seamlessly between interior and exterior vistas, and embodies the quintessential indoor-outdoor lifestyle of desert modernism.

Talk about serendipity! A late-night Pinterest scroll led us to Amsterdam-based artist Marianne Smink and her mesmerizing "After Lowry" pattern. Working directly with Marianne, we selected colors to harmonize with our project's palette. Though appearing wonderfully random, each tile's placement was thoughtfully orchestrated for perfect balance. Being part of this artistic process - from discovery to customization - exemplifies what we love about design: finding independent artists who create truly unique pieces that transform spaces.
